Black Penja pepper has an outstanding character and flavor due to the naturally rich and balanced volcanic soils in which it grows.
Penja Pepper has gained worldwide gastronomic reputation. In 2014, it became the first product of the African continent to obtain Protected Geographical Indication status (PGI).
It is harvested before fully ripened then dried in the sun, in the province of Moungo. The local Cameroon women sort the peppercorns, one by one. The volcanic soils of Penja give this black pepper its aromas of camphor, incense and leather. Its acidic spiciness and bite brings to mind a tannic bouquet of red wine. Full Description
